The Harpy Eagle (Harpia harpyja) is the most powerful eagle in the world, a crested giant of the neotropical rainforest.
Size and Power
Weighing up to 9 kg with talons the size of a bear’s claws, the harpy can take prey as large as sloths and monkeys. Females are significantly larger than males.
Habitat
Harpy eagles inhabit the canopy of mature lowland rainforest from Mexico to Argentina. They need large, unbroken forest to survive.
Conservation
